Your partner would appreciate guidance on the journey of pregnancy and birth – strengthening their ability to fully support you.

Your inner circle may not be able to provide the support you need during your pregnancy and birth.

You have an “at risk” pregnancy and need additional education specifically for IVF, VBAC, loss, preeclampsia, or mental health concerns.

You’re afraid of labor, pain, hospitals, or have triggers and trauma from a previous traumatic birth.

You’re totally overwhelmed and feeling anxious with the information available, needing reliable and tailored education to your specific circumstances

You’d appreciate an unbiased advocate (especially as a bipoc or lgbtqia+ parent) to have your back throughout your birth and postpartum experience.

You want to know how to support and empower your body – perhaps avoiding unnecessary medical interventions.

You’re looking for guidance on creating healthy boundaries, quieting competing voices, and honoring your intuition as a parent.

You’re interested in a holistic or alternative birth experience.

Support must start (not end) at birth.

Postpartum doulas are a wealth of knowledge, support, and nurturing when you and your baby need it most. You, like many of our families, may choose postpartum care for the:

"Colleen was the anchor that settled me"

The single best decision I made during my pregnancy was asking Colleen to be my doula. With a previous negative delivery experience and anxieties about the upcoming one, Colleen was the anchor that settled me. She was calm when I was scared, she was rational when I was irrational, she asked my healthcare team questions I overlooked so that I could make the best decision. She discussed options with me and made me feel comfortable with the path I chose. When I reflect on my birthing experience all the things that went well were greatly influenced by her presence.

"You reminded me of my own power when I felt it had abandoned me."

Thank you to my doula and photographer, Kayla at Cherry Blossom Doula - you were unparalleled in your commitment, attunement, and dedication...my anchor through every wave. You reminded me of my own power when I felt it had abandoned me.

I have never been so grateful for another human as I was for you during that experience. I have so much love for you and your healing gifts

"I’m beyond grateful that our paths have crossed!"

I truly mean it when I say you are one of the most influential people in my life. Your work matters so much. Pregnancy and birth are such a transformational, vulnerable, and sacred time, and with each experience I feel like I’m being molded into someone new. I’m beyond grateful that our paths have crossed!

"... I felt confident and secure because you were there..."

"I will never forget how you made me feel so heard and safe through what should have been a very scary experience. The twins birth was a whirlwind but throughout it all I felt confident and secure because you were there to listen to me and to me through it.

- Amy

"During labor, her calm presence and words of encouragement kept my spirits up..."

"Megan Straub is absolutely amazing! From the very beginning, she was so easy to connect with. Her warm personality and genuine care made me feel comfortable and supported instantly. During labor, her calm presence and words of encouragement kept my spirits up and helped me find the strength I didn’t even know I had. She truly made me feel like I was never alone through the entire process. What touched me even more was how she followed up after birth, continuing to show her support and understanding when I needed it most. Megan is compassionate, empowering, and truly changes lives while helping bring life into the world. I feel so blessed she was part of my journey!"

-Lauren

I will never forget witnessing my first birth and how empowering it was. It was what led me to become a L&D nurse in 2018. Over the years, I've cared for many families gaining a deep understanding of both the beauty and sorrows of the birthing process.

I have comforted, laughed, cried and supported patients with nothing but compassion and love. I have seen firsthand how birth trauma can occur, how the healthcare system fails birthers and the lack of education that occurs during the prenatal period.

Becoming a doula, my goal is to help bridge that gap. I will provide emotional, physical and informational support to help you feel empowered, confident and informed throughout your pregnancy and birth. I offer evidence-based resources to help you make informed decisions, ensuring your voice is heard and respected by your care team.

I will be a pillar in your corner helping you feel less scared if things need to medically pivot. Being a L&D nurse has given me an amazing foundation so I can serve you better.

Whether you're seeking a medicated or unmedicated birth, hospital or homebirth, navigating the challenges of high-risk pregnancies, or healing from a previous difficult birth experience, I am here to support you. I can’t wait to start this journey with you.

Hello my name is Kayla Shabeck and I am a birth doula. I wear a couple other titles as well; a wife, mom to two girls , a child life specialist, health advocate and I hold a Masters in Health Psychology, all making me personally and professionally very passionate about the birth work I get to do.

Before becoming a doula I have worked in the pediatric clinical setting as a certified child life specialist. Within this discipline, I have worked with pediatric patients and their families for 7 years providing support throughout their hospitalization.

I promote autonomy, resiliency, and coping through the modalities of preparation, education, comfort positioning, distraction, and play to help my patients navigate their medical journey. These same skills and services transfer into my work as a doula as

I provide you the support, advocacy, emotional safety, and solace throughout your child bearing journey. From the months of your pregnancy, to the end of the golden hour, I am here to serve you as part of your support team. My approach to birth work will equip you with the tools to beautifully bear and birth your baby.

Michet stumbled onto this beautiful journey while attending massage therapy school and immediately felt this path was for her. In 2021, she decided to quit her corporate job and step into birth work full time. Michet flourished knowing she helped families feel safe and supported through the most magical and vulnerable time of their lives. As a birth worker and person, she identifies as a healer, an educator and an adventurer.

Helping to heal bodies through massage, especially prenatal massage became Michet's greatest passion. Pregnancy presents beauty, but it can also be uncomfortable. Being able to provide relief, education, and welcome a divine mind, body and baby connection are the supports Michet strives to uphold. She is a firm believer in taking care of your mind, body, and spirit. She says, "We have to know and trust our bodies to withstand the physiological experiences of birth."

Michet has been a labor doula with Cherry Blossom since summer 2022 and this journey has allowed her to step into her wider purpose. She empowers families to tap into what keeps them grounded and stable mentally, while also making sure that they have the necessary tools and resources to make informed decisions that align with their beliefs and make them feel safe.

Currently Michet is also a student midwife with Aurora Midwifery. In her free time, she enjoys hanging with her loved ones and two fur babies, Zuez and Charlie. She believes deeply that birth should be respected, your voice should be heard, and your feelings must be made valid. She welcomes her families to step into their power, to do the work both mentally and physically needed to prepare, and to trust mind, body and intuition. Michet feels so abundantly blessed to do something she loves - and, she looks forward to supporting more families and to walking alongside you on this sacred journey called pregnancy and birth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you guys subscribe to a more holistic/Eastern or traditional/Western approach?

All of our doulas are certified and trained in traditional medicine best practices. We will always recommend minimal interventions in the interest of introducing the least amount of risk to birthing parents and babies. However, we understand certain diagnoses and circumstances require more medical support, and we are grateful for those (necessary) interventions. We walk alongside each family, and help them navigate their unique experience one step at a time. Here’s all you need to know: we are here to support you in any way that feels empowering. We will take our cues from your healthcare preferences, and tailor our approach to your comfort.

What if a previous birth experience was traumatic?

Our doulas understand better than most: pregnancy and birth is beautiful…but not always simple. If your past pregnancy(ies)/births turned out to be a struggle, you’re in very good company. Between the massive lifestyle shifts, health complications, financially-motivated medical norms, frequent hormonal tidal waves, drop off in support, and societal/household pressure against rest and ease, it’s no wonder so many moms struggle mentally and emotionally in pregnancy and birth! Our doulas are a safe confidant for your fears, and will act as a trusted guide in navigating these sometimes unexpected tidal waves that come up when we are least expecting it. This time though….you’re not alone.

Do you take insurance?

We are preferred providers with the fertility benefit companies Carrot and Maven. We accept HSA/FSA cards, and we have positive relationships with companies like Boeing, CVS, Uber Corp, Walgreens, and Amazon. Contact us to see if our fees would be reimbursed by your private insurance company.

Are you guys supportive of BIPOC and LGBTQIA families?

Absolutely. As doulas, we’re aware that BIPOC and LGBTQIA frequently experience adverse outcomes in childbirth and are more likely to face postpartum complications due to inequitable standards of care. We are especially passionate about advocating for, equipping, and empowering families that would otherwise be brushed off or minimized. Every doula on our team is extremely passionate to see every family get the care and support they need; regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual preference (this really should go without saying). If you have a couple minutes and need a happy cry, check out our birth photography feature in She Knows magazine – dedicated to LGBTQIA parents.

When will my doula join me in labor?

Generally, we meet you in active labor at your home or your preferred birth place (once contractions are consistent) to help lessen the chances of slowing your labor down, OR when you are ready for her to be in your space, and ready for hands on support.

However, there is no perfect formula to follow here and clear communication at this stage is essential. We trust YOU and will join you when you give the word!

During early labor, we will be available to you for phone support, to listen and help assess over the phone how things are progressing. We will communicate what’s normal (and not normal), ways to rest, and how to manage this phase of labor.

We want to meet your needs, so ask for what you need, what you’re feeling, and where you’re at mentally and physically! We will ask questions and offer support based on your answers and how you sound. Tell us when you’re ready for hands-on support (we never assume), and we will join you at home or at your preferred birth setting. This is your space, and we always wait for the invitation.

What kind of communication can I expect from my doula?

While every client-doula relationship varies based on needs (and communication style), we do ask you to lead the way communicating with your doula during pregnancy. This can look like checking in after each prenatal appointment and sharing milestones along this journey. You can also ask your doula questions pertaining to your prenatal care, ask for resources that can help you make informed decisions about your birth or postpartum care, or just tell us what’s weighing on you.

Please give grace. Being on call 24/7 means we do not have normal waking hours. We might be re-charging our batteries so that we can give you 100%. If we don’t respond to a non-urgent matter while we are in the middle of a birth, please know we still care about you! Please give us a day or two and follow up! We will give you the same grace in response times. For non-urgent matters, please text during normal business hours or email at any time of day. Because birth is unpredictable, we also may need to reschedule the occasional prenatal or follow up consultation. We ask for your understanding in advance.
