Essential Items for Postpartum Recovery
It’s that bright and shiny space before baby or babies are here. You feel pretty ready for birth (if you don’t click here) and you are beginning to wonder what exactly to be prepared for once you’ve given birth…
Well, you’re in luck.
You’re in the right spot for some encouragement! And this article might just make you feel like you’re a little more empowered for your best possible birth recovery. Collectively, we have decades of experience in caring for mothers in the postpartum space. Which means we’ve seen how mothers and birthing families best thrive here.
Why postpartum matters
Let’s be clear: your birth is important but your postpartum lasts way longer. On average, we consider mothers in the postpartum space for about 1-3 years after they give birth! And while this transition is becoming more and more spoken about and cared for in many areas, some moms feel like they are the last to know that they’ll need even more support after birth than during it.
Jot down this note-to-self – “I will most likely need more support after birth than during it.”
(Make sure it’s in a visible place.)
Getting the support you need
For thousands of years, those who have birthed have been surrounded by a village of support! You and I, we’re of the generation where a lot of our family members work; aren’t close enough to offer the support we need; or we have clear (healthy) boundaries with our people – and them being a part of this vulnerable of a space just doesn’t make sense.
The sacred window of time after birth requires support though – products, tips, tools, unbiased humans, and community for the entire family to thrive.
Postpartum essentials
In Ayurvedic postpartum care, we specialize in working with postnatal mothers to maintain, ignite, and restore whole mind-body well-being. In Ayurvedic medicine, it’s said that the first 42 days postpartum are equal to the next 42 years – for mom and babe(s)! Products that care well for mom in this life space place an emphasis on physical wellness practices for breasts, bellies, and bottoms; and maternal mental, emotional, spiritual, and relational well-being.
Some of the tangible items we suggest for your postpartum include digestive herbs and lactation teas, nipple cream, breast pads, essential oils, body oils, and perineal sitz baths or yoni steams.
We fell in love with several specific local and global brands, and now offer curated postpartum boxes for local families!
We offer two sizes of boxes to fit your budget and needs. Both are openly available to purchase for self and/or gift.
Starting out right
We’ll conclude with this: self care is other care in your postpartum space. This is a fundamental truth for all those caring for babe(s) once they’ve arrived earth side. With all the various life changes that present themselves in postpartum, it might be necessary for your family to consider outside support.
We highly recommend sitting down to make a plan and to budget for the following care modalities:
- a postpartum doula
- lactation consultant (IBCLC)
- pelvic floor therapist
- chiropractor
- massage therapist
- therapist/counselor, and
- acupuncturist/herbalist.
You may also want support in creating a meal train or to have meals made for you in your home.
Our team of Ayurvedic certified and trained doulas are well-versed in helping you create your postpartum plan, including but not limited the resources you will want based on your unique journey. We can also come into your home with day or overnight support and support your holistic self care needs with Ayurvedic consultation.
We’re with you!
